Editing/ Sound

Handheld- this shot allow greater freedom of motion during filming. The hand held camera trope conveys the impression of presence in the action. so it makes us feel as if we were living what the little girl was living in that moment.

Eye level- used in majority of the all ad So it shows psychological effect on the audience. Making us see the child's point of view. This shot is when the camera is level or looking straight the subject.

The changing of the props from the beginning to the end show us that people lose everything and instead of living their lives, they're surviving each day.

Diegetic sound- we can hear children at the school when the girl.

what happens in the ad

At the beginning of the ad they (family) are commemorating the little girls birthday, they all seem to be happy and enjoying it, she's smiling and we can find that there is a eye level shot which shows us her emotions, giving to the audience the feeling that she is very happy.

She is afterwards shown eating, putting on some make up, showing love towards the props used, such as: chocolate, the teddy bear, the lipstick, the flute. we can still see that she is happy because we see her face expression such as when people caress her. it shows as that her daily routine is happy and is an everyday thing, such as going school, going park, cycling and enjoying the day with the loved ones.

At the middle, in the all of sudden everything changes, the audience don't see her laughing and smiling no more.
Props such as a water bottle and syrup used to show that the feed resources are ending day by day and she starts to get sick, and the quick change in the scenes which is called a cutting rate, each scene has only in the maximum 2 seconds which represents the days passing by.

The Narrative

The title of the video is also a fact about it because "second a day" signifies that each second of the scenes could be representing the days as well. later in the video is shown to the audience that everything changed, now there are explosions and is not secure to be walking around the streets as she used to.

Other props used, such as a mask and the condition of the plate completely shows us that they lost everything, she even lost her parents and is being taken to another place where she doesn't even know where she is. this makes the audience feel sympathy for her for the fact that now she is all alone. showing us how quick someone's life can change. at the end when it sys " just because it isn't happening here doesn't mean it isn't happening" is meant to make the viewer feel more connected with the character.

The film was believable and interesting for the fact that it is actually happening in country around the world such as Syria, this makes the audience think about this happening here in the UK.

Plot: This film was made to bring awareness to an issue to the audience specially Britain audience once it was made in the UK and used a British girl as the actress, we can easily tell this is in the UK because of the background and some of the props used e.g.: uniform.

Theme: Personally, me as an audience the film gave me a strong impression of may be 'guiltless' or ' heavy conscience' because I feel bad myself and think about that I could be helping, even if it is not a big help but if everyone help a little bit is something beneficial for them.

Acting / Characters: The main character in the film display complex personality and I personally think she is the perfect actress for that paper and she made a good representation of what is happening. The colouring and the lighting affected the tone and gave a more realistic scene to the audience

Review

What I understood from this ad was that they used a British girl so that people understand that "if this happened in Britain you'd help right? So why is it that Syrian children don't deserve the help too" The purpose of the ad was not only to raise awareness but to also make the viewer feel slightly.

This makes the audience feel how someone's life can change so quickly.. Can't  imagining going through something like this, it must be extremely rough.

In the advert we can also find little thinks that make the audience realise that it is in the UK such as the uniform usage, the accent. In my point of view, it is used to make Britain citizens think about that it could be happening here anytime, so they would need help once they put their selves in the other people's place.

We can also analyse that to make the girl look dirty once she passed through all those situations they use make up to give an effect of realism.

I think the director had a great idea of how he organised and chose to tell the story. this is also a linear short story because It has a beginning which is when the appears the family singing happy birthday to the little girl, the middle which is when the conflict starts (the attacks), and finally the end, the girl loses her parents.

this is an emotional appealing including sympathy because the advertisers seek to associate negative emotions and make the audience feel sympathy to other children who need help.

I personally think the film was well directed and framed the characters were perfect

but I think it should have around 6 minutes time once one second means one day so 1sec. x 365 = 365sec. which is equals to 6 minutes.

Comments

  1. Very detailed on camera and mise en scene. But you need some separate sub-headings on editing and sound. There is a little analysis on sound, but not enough. Also add some stills to illustrate. Vanessa
