Pepsi Generation Advert
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=po0jY4WvCIc
Plot: this advert is about Pepsi which in the time was in competition with coca cola and it is interesting to the audience for the fact that they use children which could mean that the drink makes you feel young or energetic, and also use Michael Jackson to attract more people to bu8y Pepsi instead of coca cola.
themes?Format: The Pepsi Generation was the theme of an advertising campaign for Pepsi-Cola, a U.S. brand of soft drink that launched in 1963 as the result of a slogan contest.
themes?Format: The Pepsi Generation was the theme of an advertising campaign for Pepsi-Cola, a U.S. brand of soft drink that launched in 1963 as the result of a slogan contest.
The
technique that is used is testimonial as Michael Jackson is supporting Pepsi in
this commercial.
Purpose: the intent message is if Michael Jackson is cool because he drinks Pepsi instead of coke. So if you want to be cool drink Pepsi as your idol does instead of coke. The advertisement agency that made this commercial is BBDO. Right
now Pepsi do not work with BBDO but during the time this advertisement was made
they had a contract. During this time Pepsi and coke were having a cola wars, where both hiring celebrities and making commercials to make people buy either coke or Pepsi. what the advertisement don't say is that both beverages are extremely unhealthy and if you drink too much you could get severely sick as it is full of chemicals and high in sugar
Target audience: During this
time, Coke and Pepsi were having a "war" so they tried to get people
to choose Pepsi instead of coke, and mainly the people who drank these soft
drinks were teens to adults of all ages. The way that they put Michael Jackson
in the ad, may mean that they would like to convince Michael Jackson fans to
Pepsi. Pepsi was the more dominant brand in history but afterwards it changed.
Platform for broadcast: the advert
could be heard in radio, appeared on TV, online.
Messages
and Values: The commercial makes people want to change from Coca-Cola to
Pepsi, it is more for Michael Jackson fans once if the “king of pop” chose it,
they will probably change from coke to Pepsi. It is beneficial because Michael
Jackson was known by most people in the whole world. So the company would get
more people to buy Pepsi.
Model of Address: In my opinion the model address is expert because the company uses Michael Jackson to make people buy their products it makes me think that the persuasive techniques used is repetition because in the advert it repeats 'you're the Pepsi generation' as if this Pepsi advert is trying to say this new generation premiered the pepsi product. plus, at the end it says "Pepsi. The choice of a new generation".

A decent start Leticia but I would have liked to see much more detailed analysis of persuasive methods used in this advert. You only really touch on repetition, but there are other methods that you could have identified, with more specific examples. Vanessa
