characteristics, looking at specific examples of these products in order to
understand the advantages and disadvantages of these products and the

Characteristics of a mainstream product:
- It has a high production value and is usually backed by a big conglomerate
- They are usually distributed in cinemas n maybe theatres
- Marketing: posters, billboard, sponsors
- Young audience
- The showing of the product which was made in public
A mainstream film is a film which is released and distributed though theatre?cinema for a wide release.
usually known as blockbuster films or Hollywood films.
for example:
Skyfall, it is a mainstream film because it was released to the majority of the world and distributed through theatre/cinema. its target audience would be people interested in the classic bond films or simply have an interest for high quality action films.
The Advantages of the product is that they have a bigger audience, bigger payout, budget, a better campaign.

- Low budget film with a independent crew and cast
Independent media refers to any form of media, such as
radio, television, newspapers or the Internet, that is free of influence by
government or corporate interests.
Independent film is a film that is produced mostly or completely outside of the major film studio system. an example of an independent film is "boyhood" because it was not released though cinema, it was distributed as DVD's and sold in stores. its target audience are people who have an interest in independent films but are also a fan of a drama films.The advantages are that they’re original and fun and don’t have to pay too many people.
The disadvantage is
that there will be limited distribution, limited marketing, low production
values in addition time pressure.
Characteristics of niche products:
- A more mature audience(older)
- Normally published in newspaper
- Low budget and value
- Cinemas very small
- Film showing and online release
A niche product is a focused, targetable portion of a product, only made for a specific audience.
tell no one would be a niche film.The film generated $17 million in ticket sales during its first four weeks at the French box office. In total, the film grossed $22,194,261 in France becoming the 12th highest-grossing film of the year with 3,111,809 tickets sold. Music Box Films acquired the rights to the film and gave it a limited theatrical release on July 2, 2008. The film opened in eight theaters grossing $169,707 during its opening weekend. In total, the film grossed $6,177,192 in North America.
The advantage of the niche product is that the audience pays for the product and they get a targeted campaign.
The disadvantage would
be that only one audience would buy the product.
