UNIT 3: Evaluation of Short Film
Evaluation of Short Film
What were the aims of
your brief from your chosen charity/campaign and did you fulfil them?
The aims of my campaign video is to promote a charity beneficial to the charity which was chosen 'Childline' and encourage those who are victims and even the people around them to call Childline whenever they feel like something is going wrong, for example being threatened or judged. The short film had the purpose to make people believe that Childline will hear what the victims have to say and help them getting over with the situation; as we did fulfil the aim which was to bring awareness and inform the viewers of any ages and race I feel happy and glad with the piece I created. What I feel most proud of, is the fact that the viewer can clearly understand that the short film links with the charity Childline as the character makes a call in order to get help, in addition I also added the logo with the number of the charity, which makes it more easier to the audience to understand what is the purpose of the short film.
What were your original ideas about how did these develop throughout the project?
What were your original ideas about how did these develop throughout the project?
Well, my initial idea which is shown on the Campaign pitch was about a girl called Annabelle who used to get bullied by her closest friends for the fact that she had a different sexual preference. She one day gets enough of it and writes a letter to her friend Brooklyn thanking for everything she had done to try helping her. The idea was for Annabelle to go home and try commit suicide and Brooklyn comes making her stop and see that it wouldn't be a solution for the problems. However, me and my group thought about it and I believe it wouldn't really show what happens in real life where people get bullied and at the end by calling for help it would feel more satisfying and fair. We planned to record most of the scenes outside college which were scenes in the bus, Annabelle's house, and a charity organisation; still, me and my group would have to get permission to film on those areas and the story would be too complex. I believed that something more simple could be understood by the audience much better.
How well did you plan out your short film? Evaluate strengths and weaknesses.
The weakness for my group was the fact that, at the beginning there was a lack of characters and we had to take much longer than we expected to film all the scenes since the actors weren't all available at the same time. we also didn't have much experience with the camera and tripod, but still over the filming we got to get more knowledge of how to focus, zoom in and out, and using different shots to show to the audience the victims point of view. I also had to work in most of the post production step for the fact that along the way my group got all messed up and I knew if I wanted to get a good piece of work, even tough I was basically all alone I had to do my best.
The strength was that I personally was very dedicated to do my best, for both, filming short scenes and editing most of the film, always very detailed and inspired. At first I thought it was a rocket science, but when I got a go it wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be, I would recommend to the starters that filming and editing might seem hard but when you have the chance to work with it, its not a rocket science, you feel confident working with it as long as you have interest. The member of the group Zehra was also a very big help since she had more knowledge on working with the Adobe Primiere Pro and guided me at the beginning how to use each tool.
Which editing skills did you develop and how could you improve in this area?
I practically learnt all my editing skills I have now while editing this short film, even though I got some help from the teachers and my group, it was fun and good since I've learnt a lot. the most challenging step was adding the audios and the logos, adding the music and cropping them. I believe I could improve in this area by familiarising more with it and carry on trying my best.
Finally I would like to mention, David from the other group that helped my group filming a short scene since we had no one apart from him in our group that could do it. Also Greta which was part of a scene, she helped us to complete it because we needed more people, and Jakub that also filmed some scenes for us.
Feedback
The feedback I got from the audience was satisfactory, most of them said it was very interesting and they liked it for the fact that this clearly shows what the campaign is promoting. Others believed that the voice over was good and that as it narrates the story very well. Personally I believe it could be improved if me and my group had more experience with the camera and its angles, also in the drama bits, some parts wasn't taken that serious and if we watch it carefully we can see that the facial expressions doesn't make it realist.

This is incomplete!
ReplyDeleteWhat you have done is good however. You are realistic about strengths and areas for improvement. You evaluate how you met the brief and purpose. You are clear on each stage of production. Now complete it, and carry out some audience research of your own, and add it. Vanessa
